• All flammables—including curtains, towels and certain cleansers—are kept away from the stove.
  
• All household chemicals are tightly capped and stored away from ignition sources.
  
• You stay in touch with neighbors, friends and people you know.
  
• A telephone and lamp or light switch can be easily reached in bed.
  
• You use nightlights in the bedroom, bathroom and hallways.
  
• You keep a flashlight handy.
  
• All staircases are equipped with handrails.
  
• All shower, tub and toilet areas are equipped with grab bars.
  
• All telephone and electrical cords are kept out of pathways.
  
• You have a personal emergency response system to contact emergency services if help is needed.
